Yoichi Iida
飯田 陽一
Yoichi Iida was appointed in July 2025 as the inaugural National Cyber Director, overseeing Japan’s cyber security policy. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo and earned a Master’s degree in International Development Policy from Duke University Graduate School. In 1989, he joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), where he held key positions in areas such as aerospace industry policy, new energy technologies, trade control, and economic security. He later served as Cabinet Counselor, Cabinet Office (in charge of economic security), Cabinet Counselor, Cabinet Secretariat (concurrently with the National Security Secretariat), and Deputy Director-General of the National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC). Throughout his career, he has played a leading role in advancing Japan’s economic security and cyber policy. Drawing on his extensive administrative experience and international perspective, he is dedicated to strengthening Japan’s cyber security framework.
