Biohacking Village
Biohacking Village is excited to participate in CODE BLUE this year with hands-on medical device cybersecurity training and a healthcare-focused capture the flag competition designed around the intersection of patient safety, connected technology, and responsible security research.
As healthcare systems become increasingly connected, medical devices are no longer isolated clinical tools; they are part of complex digital ecosystems that include hospital networks, cloud services, wireless communications, software supply chains, and sensitive patient data. This creates new opportunities for innovation, but also new responsibilities for manufacturers, healthcare delivery organizations, regulators, and security researchers.
At CODE BLUE, Biohacking Village will provide practical medical device security training designed to help participants better understand how these systems are built, connected, tested, and protected. The training will introduce core concepts in medical device architecture, threat modeling, vulnerability discovery, coordinated vulnerability disclosure, secure design, and the unique ethical considerations involved when cybersecurity research intersects with human health and clinical care.
In addition to the trainings, Biohacking Village will host a medical device and healthcare cybersecurity CTF. The CTF will give participants an engaging, hands-on way to apply security concepts in realistic healthcare scenarios, including device communications, clinical workflows, data protection, access control, vulnerability analysis, and responsible reporting. The goal is to challenge participants technically while reinforcing the importance of safety, ethics, and collaboration in healthcare environments.
Biohacking Village brings together hackers, clinicians, engineers, manufacturers, policy leaders, regulators, and defenders to examine real-world healthcare security challenges in a collaborative environment. Our work emphasizes patient safety, legal and ethical research, practical defense, and the shared responsibility required to protect modern healthcare infrastructure.
This year’s medical device trainings and CTF at CODE BLUE will give participants a hands-on opportunity to engage with the technical, operational, and policy realities of securing connected medical technology. Attendees will leave with a stronger understanding of how medical devices fit into the broader healthcare threat landscape, how to approach testing responsibly, and how cross-sector collaboration can reduce risk before it reaches the patient bedside.
